| I love colorful and original people. That's what makes ill e. gal, of True High Class, one of my favorites. There have been very few bands that made me pick up the phone and demand that my boy, Green, come running over to hear it. T. H. C. is one of those bands. Now check out my AIM chat with the smoking ill e. gal. Beware. We both express some opinions on marijuana use that could offend some conservatives, so proceed with caution. Again, I don't know why you people visit this site anyway, but you've been warned. Visit her on MySpace by clicking above. Scary: Okay. Let's do this thang! ill e. gal: Word up! Scary: How was the show? I saw the vids, but I want your take. ill e. gal: It was amazing. It was my first show in my home town. Tons of people came out, and i gotta say it was probably the best show i have ever played. Scary: I have to ask about the sticker on your side. What was that? ill e. gal: Haha. Yeah, it was a Loonatix sticker...they are my boys here in Minnesota, pretty much running the Underground scene here. Scary: I just talked to a rep here about bringing you here to KY. How would you feel about that? ill e. gal: I'm always down. I love playing out of state shows. it's just so damn expensive to travel! Scary: I'm trying to talk the people at the Historic Southgate House to get you and a couple others in the grand ballroom...balcony seating and all. What do you think? ill e. gal: That would be awesome. Like i said, I'm down to play anywhere, anytime as long as i get a guarantee. Scary: I already turned down two venues because they couldn't guarantee good pay. The Southgate House Offerred usually splits the door....in the past anyway. ill e. gal: Awesome. If traveling wasn't so expensive I'd be everywhere all the time. But with trying to put out my debut album, money is tight. Scary: Trust me, I know about the expenses. I don't know if you know I'm in a band, but we deal with their BS all the time. That's why I don't even like to play anymore. On to better things. How did you and Tress hook up? ill e. gal: Oh, word...glad you understand then. Miss Tress was one of the first people i met when I moved to Minnesota. We hooked up to do a song together called "Royalty Girls". We performed it live, and I then asked her to be my hype girl. Scary: Okay, how are the two of you different? ill e. gal: Haha! Very different. She can sing, for one. I cannot. Our styles, backgrounds, all that good stuff...completely different. I'm high...she's classy...lol. Scary: I can see that you are very different. How do you think you would fare on the road with her? ill e. gal: What do you mean? Scary: Bands usually fall apart because of the ways they differ in living on the road together. Do you think you would have any problems? ill e. gal: Well we are both pretty driven as far as music goes, and since we haven't toured...I'm not sure what would happen. We have had great success playing out of state and rising to the occasion. Scary: I want to take a different turn here. Can we go political? ill e. gal: Sure. Scary: How do you feel about legalization of marijuana? ill e. gal: Very strongly. Haha...it's one of the main reasons I do what I do. Scary: Do you support de-criminalization or total legalization? ill e. gal: I think the laws need to be changed, and slowly but surely states are decriminalizing weed...making it available for terminally ill people and whatnot. I think it should be legal to grow it yourself. One of the main arguments is that weed is a gateway drug. If we didn't have to go through drug dealers to get it, we wouldn't be exposed to the other more dangerous drugs on the black market. Scary: Do you think it should be only for the sick who need it or for those who feel they need it? ill e. gal: Just as many people smoke weed as they do drink alcohol. I see no negative effects. If anything, it helps. I think alcohol is way worse for your body, and can impair you way more. Scary: I am with you on the subject of alcohol abuse. Weed is much less dangerous....body and mind. ill e. gal: Weed can open your mind, relax you and it helps the creative process ;-) It is natural. It's a plant that grows. God intended for us to smoke it, and i feel like we are being raped of our rights having to hide the fact that we smoke. These laws were made way too long ago. Scary: You get no argument from me. I wanted to do this interview, partially, because of your stance on weed. For personal reasons, I'm an old school supporter...lol. ill e. gal: Oh word. We have much worse problems in our world today then people smoking weed in the comforts of their homes. I just feel so strongly about it, and i know a lot of other people do too. Things need to change. My song "Fuct Up" explains it. Scary: Are you familiar with Gatewoodstock? ill e. gal: I am not Scary: Gatewood Galbaith ran for governor of Kentucky, when I was in high school, on the platform of legalization. They had a concert where joints were passed out. He's running again this year. ill e. gal: That's awesome, and thats where it needs to start. Hopefully, as time progresses ,more younger people will be elected into office and enforce change. Scary: Weed is actually our number one cash crop in this state. Tobacco is second. ill e. gal: Do they not see how much taxes they could make off of it? It's a natural resource. Also, hemp can be used for oil!!!! The government needs to get their heads out of their asses. Scary: I don't know if you know this, but the only reason you can't grow weed is because there is a license you need that the government won't give you. It is not a controlled substance. ill e. gal: I know the marijuana tax stamp. Even having one is "ill e. gal"...hahaha. I just feel like there are such worse problems in the world. Weed should not be a part of the problem...it should be part of the solution. Scary: Our government is screwed up. We should all be registered voters. ill e. gal: I am. I wish i could be more involved. Scary: Good for you! ill e. gal: But it seems like people are accepting of me and my message. Some people just don't like weed...I can understand that. It should be a choice either way. We are humans. Scary: Let's get back to the music. When did you first start. ill e. gal: Well...I have been a writer/poet since i was a little girl...I have always been good with words. In late 2001 i started rapping, thanks to psychopathic and subnoize records. Scary: I'm, the same. I got my first award in first grade. Don't we seem to have the most problems in life?...lol. ill e. gal: No sh*t...one of the main reasons I started writing raps was because I had really bad anxiety disorder. Writing how I felt was the only thing that made me feel better. Scary: Well, let's end this with your final words to the fans. ill e. gal: To all the fans out there....thank you SO MUCH for all the LOVE AND SUPPORT!!! I hope to have the True High Class album available on 4/20/07 and my solo album done by 11/11/07. Scary: Cool deal. ill e. gal: ...and thanks for doing this ;-) |
